One of the perks of joining our Illinois real estate license holding company is the ability to refer to any broker you choose, even brokers out of state. While referring to a broker you know can be relatively straight-forward, choosing an out of state broker to send you real estate referral to can be a little daunting. We have out together the following tips to help you make sure your referral is sent to the best possible choice.
Think about the area and type of property of your referral
Is your referral looking for a small starter home, a large family home with a huge backyard, or a luxury condo in a downtown area? If the referral is a seller, what type of property are they selling? After you establish the criteria, look at similar real estate listings online. See who the top players are listing the types of properties you are looking for and read reviews.
Keep in mind the type of client you are referring
Your goal is to help your referral find the best fit for them and someone they are comfortable dealing with. Ask yourself what kind of personality your referral has. Are they someone who would appreciate a more direct and hands-off approach or would they respect a more analytical agent who provides them lots of information and facts to help them make their decision. Keep this in mind during the next step when you are communicating with the potential referral broker.
Talk with your potential referral brokers
The next step in the process would be to cut your list down to a few potential candidates and discuss the possibility of sending them the referral. Remember, your reputation with your referral is also at stake and you want to provide them with the best possible match. If you were previously in a traditional brokerage firm before moving your license to holding, call their local office if available and discuss what you are looking for, they can usually steer you in the right direction.
Send in the referral to us so we can get the agreement signed
In all states, the referral agreement is between the two sponsoring brokers and not between the individual brokers. After you have chosen your broker and agreed on a referral fee, complete our referral submission form and we will take it from there.
If you ever have any questions during the process, reach out to us and let us know and we will be more than happy to help.
